Colosseum for Kids – A Guide for families

Since the movie Asterix Conquers Rome, the Eternal City has held a special fascination for children. Gladiator fights and chariot races in the Circus Maximus are stories every kid knows.

Fun Fact: During Asterix’s time (50 BC), the Colosseum and Circus Maximus hadn’t even been built yet.

What better way to immerse your family in history than to visit these ancient landmarks and walk in the footsteps of the Romans with your kids?

Visiting the Colosseum with Kids – Entry & Tickets

Entry to the Colosseum is free for children and teenagers under 18. However, free tickets can be ordered online but need to be collected at the Colosseum’s ticket office.

Tip: Visit the Colosseum early in the morning or later in the evening, as it’s less crowded both inside and at the ticket office during these times.

While free tickets for kids are only available on-site, we recommend purchasing other tickets online in advance.

  • The Colosseum has a limited visitor capacity and is one of Europe’s most popular attractions, welcoming millions of visitors annually.
  • During peak seasons, tickets often sell out weeks in advance.

Standard Ticket Prices:

  • Adults: €18
  • Children & teenagers under 18: Free

Waiting times of several hours are not uncommon, and during busy periods, tickets often sell out completely.
